I hold a BA in Librarianship from the Department of Archives and Library Sciences, Ionian University, Greece and a PhD in Information Science from the same Department. Currently I work as Acting Director in the Library & Information Center, University of Patras.
In parallel, I am research associate in the Database and Information Systems Group, Laboratory of Digital Libraries and Electronic Publications, Department of Archives and Library Science, Ionian University, Greece (put simply, some bonds do not break).
In the past I have worked in the frame of numerous projects concerning the development of digital libraries, while I have served the Program Committee of many national and international conferences.
Since July 2016, I am member of the Executive Board of LIBER (Ligue des Bibliothèques Européennes de Recherche – Association of European Research Libraries) and of the Board of Directors of Hellenic Academic Libraries Link. Since December 2016 I am appointed Vice President of the Hellenic General Council of Libraries, a body of the Ministry of Education, Research and Religious Affairs monitoring the operation of Greek public libraries.
I am member of the Editorial Boards of the International Journal on Digital Libraries and Heal-Journal, the newly established journal of the Greek academic libraries, and member of the Steering Committee of the Theory & Practice on Digital Libraries Conference. I am also member of EEBEP (the Greek Librarians and Information Scientists Association) and ASIST, while from 2004 and on I provide services to E-LIS, the international subject repository in librarianship and information science (with a short spell in the Executive Board).
My research interests include libraries, digital libraries and user-centered digital library evaluation, information behavior, ontologies, visual communication and data visualization.
My other interests include music, graphic design, amateur publishing (fanzines and webzines) and sports (mainly as supporter of my beloved Panachaiki FC, the team of my hometown, and Dundee FC; yes, the Scottish club).
If you are interested in seeing a selection of my publication list (please do not expect anything spectacular) you may check “Scripts”. If you want to be linked with me in the various social networking media accounts I am keeping, then make your preference between Mendeley, where I am keeping (and sharing) my bibliography and readings, and Twitter, where I post in short fashion news and opinions. I post my slides on Speaker Deck and, if it makes any sense to you, you are welcomed to see my Google Scholar webpage.
